I went to an alpaca room shoe factory and photographed the manufacturing process.

I photographed the manufacturing process of alpaca room shoes sold at Pisac in Peru, South America. It is roughly divided into 10 steps.
Because everything is done by hand, it takes approximately 3 days to make one pair.

I also write a blog about my visit to the alpaca farm ↓

Use sorted and washed hair

The alpaca hair used is clean alpaca hair that has been sorted and washed after shearing. I would like to write a blog about this "sorting/washing" process in the future.

The room shoes business is running under the leadership of his wife Emma.

Alpaca room shoe business started by owner Noel and his wife

The owner, Noel's brother, runs an alpaca farm where they keep over 35,000 alpacas of various colors. Noel is an artist who draws pictures of the mountains in the Inca land and pictures of shamans praying. As part of his art, he started making felt art using alpaca wool, and his wife Emma saw it. It seems that it started with the idea of alpaca room shoes.

This is my first time doing business with Japan.

Since each step is carefully done by hand, it is now carried out by a staff of five or six people. Next time, we will also show you how other staff members work. Basically, we only sell this product to Pisac, the company that manufactures it, and we are grateful for our relationship with this quality product.

delicate and hard work

This time we were shown the manufacturing process from scratch for the first time, and the work of arranging the alpaca wool in the mold and adjusting it was delicate, and the work of applying friction to the wool to make a flat felt was really hard, and Noel sweated a lot. I was scratching as I worked.

Careful manual work until the final finish

The final step is to sew the cowhide leather to the bottom of the room shoes by hand. I was amazed at how quickly and carefully the work was done.

If you take care of it, you can wear it for more than 5 years.

The use of high-quality alpaca hair and the time and effort put into it make it durable and long-lasting. I also love these room shoes, and they are already in their 5th year. In the fall and winter, these shoes have become a part of my feet, and regardless of the season, when my feet get cold, I immediately put them on. It doesn't get stuffy, so it's comfortable to wear with bare feet.
